Prohibido El Rum Habanero translates to “forbidden rum”. This is a special type of rum that was known around 1700, but was banned in Mexico until 1796. It was banned because its users caused great harm under its influence. The distillates were made from sugar cane in Mexico, stored and transported to Spain in wooden barrels. These significantly influenced the taste and aroma of the rum.

Wooden barrels were used for their storage and transportation. These barrels had a fundamental influence on the aroma and taste of the rum during the long voyage. The resulting Chinguirito was highly valued by connoisseurs in the Old World, who admired the rum produced in the New World, especially on the Caribbean islands. The long-term storage of the distillate creates sweet notes in the taste complemented by pronounced woodiness, nuts, buttery softness and the sweetness of vanilla in the inimitable aroma of Chinguirito with tones of coffee and chocolate. Strong, sweet and above all fruity, this is the definition of El Ron Prohibido Habanero rum. In addition to raisins, there is also an undertone of plum and dried fruit.

El Ron Prohibido or Ron Habanero comes from Mexico. It is said that during the 18th century, Spanish ships arrived in America with a supply of sweet wine in barrels. Instead of returning empty, they decided to fill them with Chiguirito, also known as Mexican rum. This absorbed the taste of the wood and the aroma of the barrels, which gave it very special characteristics. The resulting product became very popular in Spain and local producers saw it as a threat to the sales of their products. As a result, the Spanish king banned the production of this rum in the New World. Chinguirito was also known as Habanero because the last stop on the way from the New World to Spain was Habana, Cuba.
